Police: Car Chased Through Cortlandt Nets Yorktown Supervisor's Son

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Yorktown Supervisor's son, Henry Grace, 19, is facing three felonies and two misdemeanors after police said he stole a car, fled the police and resisted arrest with a 15-year-old passenger.

New York State Police reported attempting to stop Grace, of Cortlandt Manor, after police said they observed a Toyota Scion commit traffic violations on Route 6 just before 3 a.m. on Friday, May 25.

Police said the vehicle failed to stop and led police on a chase through Cortlandt and into Yorktown. The vehicle crashed on East Main Street in the Shrub Oak section of the town of Yorktown when the operator failed to negotiate a curve.

Grace, who police said is the son of Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace, and the 15-year-old passenger then ran from the vehicle, police said, and led police on a foot pursuit, both were eventually taken into custody. Police said a check revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier this morning from a Yorktown address.

Grace was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, felony criminal mischief and felony escape. He was also charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor resisting arrest and was issued multiple traffic violations. He was arraigned in the Cortlandt Town Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail. He is due to appear next week in Yorktown Town Court for further proceedings.

Grace's underage passenger was charged with one count of felony criminal possession of stolen property and will be required to appear in Westchester County Family Court in the near future. He was released to a family member and because he is a juvenile his name was not released by police.

The investigation into this matter continues at this time. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Inv. Sean J. Morgan of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 914-788-8044 Ext. 119. All calls can be kept confidential.
