Cops: Cortlandt Man Steals Park Bleachers for Cash

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – New York State Police charged a Cortlandt man with two counts of grand larceny, after police said he stole two sets of aluminum bleachers from two parks in the Town of Cortlandt and brought the two sets of bleachers to a local scrap yard for cash.  

Brendan O’Brien, 22, of Cortlandt was arrested Feb. 2 at about 1:30 p.m. and held in custody, according to New York State Police Investigator Steven Listener. Police found the bleachers in the back of the O’Brien’s Land Rover, Listener said, about 8 feet of the bleachers were hanging out the back end of the vehicle.

Police said the bleachers were stolen from Sprout Brook Park and Cortlandt American Little League.

The following items were also reported by police:

-Two vehicles travelling east on Main Street in the Town of Cortlandt, were involved in an accident when one vehicle crossed lanes headed onto the Bear Mountain Parkway and collided with a second vehicle.

Police said Deborah A. Sattler, 22, of Highland Mills, N.Y. was driving her 2011 Ford in the right lane when Carol N. Fraiser, 43, of Peekskill, driving a 2004 GMC, crossed over the right lane to turn onto the Bear Mountain State Parkway onramp when she collided with Sattler’s Ford.

According to police reports, two people were injured in the crash, although police said it’s unclear who was injured, and what the extent of those injuries were. The incident was reported at about 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.

-New York State Police said Edwin A Parra, 23, of Cortlandt, was charged with misdemeanor operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08, and misdemeanor DWI. The incident occurred Feb. 2 at approximately 4 a.m.

-New York State Police reported that Ruber F. Ortez Sorto, 19, of Cortlandt was charged with misdemeanor operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08, and misdemeanor DWI. The incident was reported just before 4 p.m. on Feb. 3.

-According to New York State Police, John J. Connolley, 48, of Croton-on-Hudson was charged with one count of felony DWI and one count of misdemeanor aggravated DWI while driving south on Route 9 in Croton. The incident was reported just after 8 p.m. on Feb. 4.
