Car Crash Injures 5-Year-Old Boy

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A near head-on collision sent one child and three adults to the hospital Wednesday morning. All were in stable condition at the time they were taken to the Westchester Medical Center, the cars sustained severe damage, according to Croton Police.

The crash occurred about 8:15 a.m., at Riverside Avenue and Brook Street. Sydney Blake, 63, of Albany Post Road, was driving northbound on Riverside Avenue, when Christina Travis, 49, of Harrison Street in Croton, attempted to make a left turn from Brook Street, and collided with Blake, said Lt. Russel Harper, of Croton Police.

Travis had two passengers in her car, including a 5-year-old boy and her 38-year-old niece. The boy was wearing a seatbelt, but police say he should have been in a booster seat. Blake was driving a 1990 red Mercedes Benz, Travis was driving a 1999 gray Ford Escort.

The crash caused motor oil and coolant to spill from the cars. About 20 members of the Croton Volunteer Fire Department cleaned the spill before it reached storm water drains at the curb. Croton Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps were called to the scene to transport the crash victims, according to the Croton Fire Department.

Police say they believe sun glare could have been a contributing factor to the crash.
