Buchanan Resident Found Dead in Harriman Park

WOODBURY, N.Y. – New York State Park Police said they are investigating the apparent suicide of a Buchanan man in Harriman State Park Thursday evening. The man was reported missing by family members about 15 minutes before police made contact with him.

Police said they came into contact with the 42-year-old Buchanan resident at approximately 8:45 p.m. Thursday evening. Police said the man was loitering in a closed area of the park and appeared suspicious. When police made contact with him, he admitted to having a weapon in his car and fled from an officer.

The man was located about two miles East on Seven Lakes Drive inside his vehicle, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The case remains under investigation by the State Park Police and the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police have not released the name of the man involved.
