Cops: Buchanan Men Caught Counterfeiting in Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Two Buchanan men are in custody after using counterfeit bills they made around town, police said.  

Jeffery Winters, 22, of Buchanan and Jesse Maxwell, 21, of Buchanan were arrested on Dec. 20 at 2:05 p.m. and charged with first degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class C felony, at police headquarters by Police Detective Det. Todd Gallaher.

The arrests followed an investigation into the passing of counterfeit $20 bills at several businesses on the south side of the city in which the men were identified as suspects, police said.

The investigation was conducted with assistance from the United States Secret Service and included the execution of a search warrant at Winters’ residence in Buchanan and the recovery of evidence linking the two men to the counterfeit operation.

Both Maxwell and Winters were arraigned in city court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.

 

Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police for the past week:

Patrick Allen, 40, of Peekskill, was arrested on Dec. 21 at 1:10 p.m. and charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on the 1100 block of Main Street by Police Officer Greg Jones after stealing a television set from the Rite Aid pharmacy on Main Street. He was held for arraignment in city court.

Ikeem Greenhill, 19, of White Plains, was arrested on Dec. 21 at 7:45 p.m. and charged with one count each of third and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, class B and C felonies, respectively, on the 800 block of Central Avenue by Police Detective Anthony Malfitano and Police Officer Joe McGann.

Greenhill was picked up on an outstanding warrant held by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety for failing to appear in court on a second-degree robbery charge. During his arrest, officers recovered a quantity of crack cocaine which was packaged for sale. Greenhill was held for arraignment in city court.

Juan Aguilar-Perez, 32, of Peekskill, was arrested on Dec. 22 at 10:50 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, at the intersection of North Division Street and South Street by Police Officer John Marchioni.

Perez was charged after operating his vehicle while intoxicated following a personal auto accident in which he struck a tree. He was held for arraignment in city court and later released on his own recognizance.
