WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - First responders have found and are recovering a body in the Croton River after a report of a possible drowning victim was issued late Friday afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the incident was reported below Truesdale Drive near the Mayo's Landing swimming area in Croton-on-Hudson. According to reports, a witness said that a young man went into the body of water and never resurfaced.

Local police, paramedics and a Marine Unit responded to the river. The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department utilized its Marine 32 from Echo Canoe Launch with members searching both the water and shore. The Yorktown Heights Fire Department joined the search.

The body was recovered about an hour into the search.
