Bear Mountain Bridge Road Reopened After Rockslide

CORTLANDT, N.Y. — Bear Mountain Bridge Road, Route 6/202, was reopened Thursday morning after a rockslide dumped 12 tons of rock in the shoulder of the road earlier in the day. Crews closed the road between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to blast rock on the road known as the “Goat Trail,” and curvy mountainous road which leads to the Bear Mountain Bridge.

The road is infamous for its winding and narrow passage along the side of a mountain in Cortlandt. Crews had to close the road to do the necessary rock blasting. Although the rocks only fell into the shoulder of the road, crews chose to start work immediately before an expected snowfall Thursday evening.
