Attempted Burglary of Croton Home

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Croton police say an unknown party attempted to break into a Croton home while the house was occupied on Sunday night. The homeowner discovered the attempted break in the next morning, when they discovered damage to a rear door.

The attempted burglary happened sometime during the night of Sunday, Dec. 4, before 8 a.m. The resident of the 80 block of Maple Street discovered the damage the following morning. The resident also found damage to their vehicle, and police say they suspect the burglar attempted to steal the car as well. Evidence was recovered at the scene, and the matter is under investigation.

In other police news:

Dec. 2, 10:43 p.m. Patrols stopped a vehicle on Route 9 northbound near Senasqua Road for traffic violations, and eventually charged the driver and the passenger with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a misdemeanor. The driver, Nicholas Mancuso, 20, and his passenger, Nicolas Reynolds, 19, were both charged, and Mancuso was additionally charged with two traffic violations, including speeding and inadequate brake lights. Both posted $250 in bail.

Dec. 3, 9:23 a.m.  An Arlington Road resident reported suspicious activity on her 13-year-old son’s Facebook account. The resident reported that she believed her son was corresponding with an older blond woman. The matter is under investigation.

2:19 p.m. A Hixon Road resident reported to Croton police two charges on his credit card without his permission. Both charges were to the Timberland Company, which makes primarily boots. The man was charged over $325 on Nov. 16 and Thanksgiving Day. The matter is under investigation.

Dec. 4, 5:30 a.m. Patrols reported finding graffiti under the walking and bike path at Half Moon Bay Bridge. The matter is under investigation.

Dec. 5, 2:54 a.m. Injuries were reported in a single car accident off of Route 9, near Croton Point Avenue. Croton EMS and patrols responded, the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The driver and passenger were transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital by Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps, it is unclear what caused the accident.

Dec. 8, 2:38 a.m. Croton police say they stopped a car on Route 9 for crossing the hazard markers and proceeded to conduct a DWI investigation. Patrols eventually charged Antonio C. Correia, 49, of Ossining, with a DWI and aggravated DWI, both felonies, and misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operations.

After Correia was processed and fingerprinted, it was discovered that Correia had an active warrant from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Croton Police obtained a detainer warrant. The warrant was issued by ICE after Correia failed to appear for removal, on June 20 of this year. Judge Watkins set bail at $50,000, and the defendant was remanded to Westchester County Jail.
