Susan Konig Writes About Running for County

To the editor:

In 2009, I ran for County Legislator to represent Cortlandt and  Ossining. I lost to the incumbent by a mere 12 out of 9,000 votes.

What has changed in two years since I ran on a platform of lower taxes and working to reform county government? We still have the highest taxes in the nation. There is still a board majority spending our tax dollars like Monopoly money.

Unfortunately,  this isn’t a game. We are talking about people’s lives, their homes, their jobs, their businesses, their children. Every day this county loses residents, taxpayers, who give up hope that the taxes will stop rising, that the hemorrhaging of our money will cease, that the ever-growing county government will be reigned in.

Change can happen when citizens are committed to it. I pledge to make sure our taxes are not the highest in the nation for the fifth year in a row next year. If I have support on the board, we can do it. My opponent has been promoted and endorsed by the tax and spenders.  I seek the support of the taxpayers.

I ask for your vote on November 8th. My family and I want to stay here. Let’s make Westchester the place people move to, not away from.

Sincerely,

Susan Konig

Candidate for Westchester County Board of Legislators, District 9
