Steakhouse Owner Brings Family Value to the Table

Audrey Hochroth discovered the key to her success co-owning a restaurant could be likened to the experience she had gained as a nurse working with patients: both require top-notch customer service.

“I am a nurse and have dealt with people and that same sense of urgency," she said. "People are passionate about food, alcohol, cleanliness and atmosphere."

She and her husband Sal Barone combined those elements when they opened the steakhouse, Augie’s Prime Cut, in February of 2009. She felt that providing quality service in her own backyard would be a welcome addition to the Cortlandt Manor community since folks tended to trek to White Plains or Manhattan for steak dinners. That’s why it should come as no surprise that the Mohegan Lake location became an instant hit with Westchester diners across the county, from Somers to Peekskill.

A few delicacies listed on the menu include slow-roasted prime rib, hand carved dry aged steaks, and a surf and turf selection for those who want a bit of both. Every Sunday afternoon, the restaurant offers champagne brunches fit for any appetite.

For those reasons, Augie's Prime Cut has garnered a loyal clientele that keeps the place packed every night of the week. Hochroth brings her community values to the table to create relationships with her clients that’s more than just professional—they’ve become friends too.

“On a given Friday night we could end up talking with [the customers] for a half hour," Hochroth said. "We all know each other."

Hochroth has been able to use Augie's Prime Cut to help shed light on worthy causes. On September 26, she will gather with friends and loyal supporters to participate in Augie’s First Annual Charity Golf Classic to Benefit Autism Speaks. The event will feature a dinner and cocktail reception at Augie's Prime Cut.
