Reilly, Former Cortlandt Democrats Secretary, Dies

MONTROSE, N.Y. - Former Montrose resident, Enriqueta "Ketty" Reilly died Feb. 3 at the age of 76.

Most recently of Palm Coast, Fla., she was active with Cortlandt Democrats, previously serving as secretary.

Reilly was born in Chaparra, Oriente, Cuba on April 22, 1935 to Eugenio and Angela Suarez. She came to the U.S. with a nursing degree in 1962 and immediately learned English in order to receive New York nursing certification. Reilly began her career as a nurse at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. and retired as administrator of the hospital.

Her passion for local politics reflected her appreciation for the kind of government that was not available to her in Cuba. On Dec. 13, 1986, she married James Reilly in Yonkers. Once she retired to Palm Coast, Reilly enjoyed fishing with her husband and reading the latest mystery or spy novel.

She is survived by her husband James, her daughter Belkis Lamar, her stepson Matthew Reilly, her stepdaughter Loretta Reilly, her sisters Victoria Carro and Zenaida Alonso, three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck, followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
