PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- This weekend will feature two special events to help raise money for upcoming city programs.
On Thursday, March 1 The Peekskill Youth Bureau hosts what it's calling its Best Gospel Concert at Peekskill Middle School at 7 p.m. It will feature gospel artists from across the county including Peekskill's own Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
The concert is a benefit for the Youth Bureaus Juneteenth Parade celebration schedule for this summer. Admission to the event $5. Call the Youth Bureau at (914) 734-8418 for information.
On Saturday, March 3 internationally-known Peekskill jazz musician Ray Blue and his Cross Cultural Connection organization will be holding the city's first ever Mardi Gras event at the Peekskill Elks Lodge.
Proceeds of the event will benefit their annual Pro/Am Summer Concert this summer where area music students are teamed with professional musicians in clinics for a three-week period before giving a concert.
The Mardi Gras party starts at 5:30 p.m. when Blue and some of the musicians have a parade from the gazebo at Park and Division Streets to the Elks Lodge, where there will be live New Orleans jazz and a Cajun/Creole style buffet as well as a cash bar. For ticket information call (614) 319-8008.
