McGreal, who lives in Cortlandt Manor, was born and raised near Westport in County Mayo, Ireland, according to a news release from the Peekskill St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. McGreal was recently selected as the grand marshal for the parade that will run through downtown Peekskill on March 15, 2014, according to the release.
"In addition to his business accomplishments, McGreal is extremely active in Irish-American activities," parade representatives said in the release. "He is a long-time member of the St. Patrick’s Committee, he holds office in the Peekskill Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and also the AOH in Westchester County, and he is a founding member and officer of the Hudson Valley Irish Fest that is held each September at Peekskill’s Riverfront Green."
McGreal is "also well known for the number of charitable fund-raisers that have been held at The Quiet Man," according to the release.
The committee also announced this week that Erwin Alexandre, Aidan O’Kelly-Lynch, Kathleen Spencer and Susan Sheridan will serve as aides in the parade. The committee also selected the 69th Regiment of New York, "The Fighting 69th," as special honoree.
The St. Patrick’s Committee will sponsor its annual Mary Alice Murphy Half-Way to St.Patrick’s Day Cruise on the Hudson River on Sept. 7. During this cruise the grand marshal and aides are formally introduced. For more information on the cruise, residents are asked to contact committee chairman Jack Murphy at eagletide@gmail.com.
