MONTROSE, N.Y. - Although the burger joint has been open for about one month now, Mark Picucci made it official with a ribbon cutting with Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi.
"It's been tough for small business owners," Puglisi said. "I'm very, very pleased and delighted; I've known Mark Picucci for a long time."
Picucci's Yellow Jug Burger Company is between the north and south entrance to the Cortlandt train station. The three-ounce patties are served on a variety of buns and are available with one or two patties. The "build-your-own" burgers come with unlimited toppings, and there are a variety of options available, including vegetarian.
All side items, onion rings and French fries for example, are fried in canola oil. Yogurt parfaits and salads also are available.
"I'm honored that Mark continued the name," said Peter Gorman. Gorman is the grandson of former owners James and Ethel Cronin ."The old-timers around here still remembers the name," he said.
The Yellow Jug was a series of four cabins under Cronin ownership, where he said both passers-through and Indian Point workers occasionally would stay.
The abundance of delis nearby, and what Picucci saw as versatility in the comfort food, was what drew him to offer burgers. Picucci found the Yellow Jug signs, some hand-painted by James Cronin, when he bought the property and said he was "intrigued" by the name.
Picucci said feedback from the community has been positive and that many customers said, "This community needed a little sit-down, take-out burger place."
Yellow Jug is open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily; it is at 2081 Albany Post Road, in the Cortlandt Commons shopping plaza.
