The 23-year-old singer/songwriter, who grew up in Montrose and graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School, said she began writing songs when she was in fifth grade. Her writing is influenced by some of her favorite bands -- think The Beach Boys, ABBA, Bruce Spingsteen -- alongside current groups like Imagine Dragons and Walk The Moon.
A lot of what she sings about are life experiences so when she first started writing she'd go down to the Hudson with her notebook and guitar to reflect on her feelings. "I still have a very similar process," she said. "Most times I get this really cool chorus stuck in my head and then grab my guitar and sit by the river.
"If I'm in Westchester I go to George's Island Park but if I'm in the city I go down to Battery Park and find my favorite top secret bench right on the Hudson." (She presently lives in both NYC and Westchester.)
Right now she's busy traveling, playing music across the country as she released her EP (Extended Play) this past December . "We've been promoting that on tours but I have been recording three new songs which I plan on debuting in just a few weeks," she said.
LaRose is also fortunate to have Lily Pulitzer in her corner. She got involved with the designer after the Fashion Week Music Festival in 2015 and they've sponsored her band the past two years giving her fun vibrant outfits to wear on stage.
Look for her next Westchester show Saturday, Sept. 17 at The Croton Fall Arts Festival at The Croton Waterfront at 2 p.m.
