Michael Ortega Sr., 87, Peekskill Mail Carrier

CORTLANDT, N.Y.. – Michael A. Ortega, Sr., a longtime Cortlandt resident, died April 24. He was 87.  

Ortega worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Peekskill, retiring after 36 years of service. 

Ortega served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his return from the service, he married Concetta Micalizzi. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans New York Chapter 137. He loved woodworking and building. Ortega was also a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Concetta; two sons Michael (Maria) Ortega and Christopher (Betty) Ortega; two daughters, JoAnn (Robert) Ortega-Ellis and CarolAnn Ortega-Cueva; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Church of the Holy Spirit in Cortlandt Manor. Burial with military honors will follow.
