Lifelong Verplanck Resident Staten Dies at 76

VERPLANCK, N.Y. - Miriam R. Staten, a lifelong resident of Verplanck, died Oct. 30 after a two-year battle against cancer. She was 76. 

A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she was an active parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her sons James Staten and his wife Joanne, Mark Staten, Paul Staten, Christopher Staten and his wife Kathy, her daughters Janice Sharifi and her husband Behroush, Kathleen Ouellette and her husband Michael and Joan Lennox and her husband John, her brothers Edward Keon, Lawrence Keon, Daniel Keon, Thomas Keon and Dennis Keon, her sisters Rose Ellen Kleinert, Margaret Krachy and Patricia Vitolo and fifteen grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Margaret Keon, her sister Joan Canestra and her son Michael Staten.

Visitation is Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cortlandt Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Patrick's Church in Verplanck, with burial following at St. Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church.
