Hvhc's 'Winning Winter Whiskers' Ends With Peekskill Brewery Bash

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s Second Annual Winning Winter Whiskers fundraising campaign is off to a great start with more than $11,000 raised so far. But it still needs the community’s help to make its $35,000 goal.

Those who contribute more than $100 to the cause will get free admission to The Beard Bash sponsored by the Peekskill Brewery at the new location on South Water Street on Monday, April 1, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will also be open to the public for a donation of $25 at the door. Awards will be given for Most Money Raised, Wildest Beard, Longest Beard and Most Creative Fundraising Tactics.

Nearly 30 men signed up to grow their whiskers to benefit the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.

A group of employees from the Firehouse Grill in Peekskill as well as hospital physicians and other employees are growing their beards for the cause. Vying for the two top fundraising spots are two William Dauster, vice president of marketing and development at the hospital, and Edmund Coletti, vice president of facilities at the hospital.

“It’s all for a very good cause,’’ said Dauster. “Cancer affects all of us, and it’s important to support a quality, comprehensive cancer center like the Cheryl R. Lindenbaum Center, which is right in our backyard.’’

The contest began March 1, when each participant snapped a clean-shaven photo of themselves to record their progress. Photos of participants are posted on the hospital Facebook page along with competition updates. To support a favorite contestant, visit www.hvhc.org and click on the beard icon on the homepage.

“Our new event website has made it so easy to get involved and to track all the beard-growing progress,’’ said John Federspiel, president of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “We’d like to thank our sponsors, The Peekskill Brewery and Drive Action Digital, as well as all the men who are growing their beards for this worthy cause. We urge everyone in the community to go online and support these guys as they head into the final weeks of this competition.’’
