Croton Artists Gather for Handmade Holiday Sale

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Croton’s Village Hall will be filled with holiday cheer on Saturday and Sunday when local artists take over part of the community room for the 17th annual Croton Artist Holiday Boutique.

“I make and sell jewelry for a living,” said Jennifer Rutheny, owner of Rutheny’s Jewelry. Rutheny hand carves tiny wax sculptures, which are then cast into metals for her jewelry.

"This is one of the most lovely shows," she said. "It's with a group of artists that all support each other and we've been together for 17 years."

Rutheny specializes in flowers, fish, animals and replicas of natural objects. She has also replicated ships and buildings, which she said she sells to cruise ships, National Geographic, the National Audubon Society and Teatown Lake Reservation.

Another artist at the show, Jessica Miller, paints "half hour portraits." She also paints landscapes and objects. Her work was recently on display at The Black Cow in Pleasantville.

Japanese folded paper art and jewelry, knitted works and other art will also be available. There will be live music and refreshments.

Items have a wide price range, and many of the artists produce custom works. The boutique is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
