CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Elfrieda DeChent, a longtime Cortlandt resident, died Jan. 2 at the age of 83.
She was born Feb. 26, 1926 to the late Gustav and Elisabeth Schwenzer. On Dec. 6, 1952, she married Donald DeChent. He predeceased her on Sep. 27, 1988.
Mrs. DeChent was an active member of Girl Scout Troop 23 of Cortlandt and 4-H youth development leader for eight years in Yorktown. She was also a member of the NorCort Seniors and she participated in the St. Columbanus Bowling League.
Surviving are her daughters Eileen (Joseph) White and Nancy (Dave) Robertin, her son Donald (Melissa) DeChent, Jr., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. DeChent was predeceased by her granddaughter Kaite Robertin.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Cortlandt.
