Cortlandt Manor's Popp Dies at 86

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - Edward H. Popp, a longtime Cortlandt Manor resident, died Jan. 20 at the age of 86. 

Raised and educated in Port Chester, Popp was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as an electrician's mate during World War II. Following his military service, he worked as a police officer in the Town of Greenburgh for 21 years until retiring in 1981.

After retiring, Popp worked in security for 10 years at Chesebrough-Pond's Manufacturing Company in Greenwich, Conn. An avid golfer and bowler, he also enjoyed working in his greenhouse.

Popp is survived by his wife Erika Zimmermann Popp, two sons, a daughter, five grandchildren and a sister. 

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
