Cole's Market Owner, Thomas Cole, Sr. Dies at 73

VERPLANCK, N.Y. - Thomas F. Cole, Sr., of Verplanck, died Jan. 31 at the age of 73.

Familiar to many in Montrose, he was the proud owner of 110-year-old family business Cole's Market on Albany Post Road.

He was born in Peekskill on Nov. 14, 1938 to David E. and Mary Edith Cole. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School and was a member of the National Guard. On Oct. 15, 1960, Cole married Geraldine Teed and together they had four children. She predeceased him in 1990.

When he wasn't working, Cole spent much of his time with family at his home on the Hudson River. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and vacationing in Montauk, N.Y. Cole was a lifetime member of the Peekskill Yacht Club and the Cortlandt Engine Co., as well as an avid golfer, bowler, NASCAR enthusiast and New York Giants football fan.

He is survived by his fiancee and former classmate, Barbara Conklin, his brothers David (Dianne) Cole, Jr. of Northport, Maine and Albert (Gail) Cole of Port St. Lucie, Fla., his daughters Christine (John) Cole Wu and Tricia (Joe) Cole Delamater, his sons Thomas F. (Val Loh) Cole and Robert M. (Laura Zarreli) Cole and five grandchildren. 

Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Cortlandt Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday at The Reformed Church of Cortlandtown, followed by interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
