Armbruster, Ex-Croton Think Tank Director, Dies

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Francis E. Armbruster of Upper Nyack, N.Y., died at Nyack Hospital on March 24 at the age of 88.

Armbruster was the former director of interdisciplinary studies at Hudson Institute in Croton-on-Hudson.

He was born April 9, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Armbruster served in the 10th Armored Division in France and Germany during World War II. He was a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

After spending nine years in Air Force Intelligence in Washington, Armbruster served as operations analyst for the Boeing Company and ITT Corporation. In February 1962, he joined the Hudson Institute in Croton-on-Hudson. He retired in October 1987.

Armbruster is survived by his wife, Irene, his son, Francis Jr., his daughter-in-law, Jill Morris, and daughters Ellen Anne and Janet. He is also survived by his sister Regina Armbruster.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Church in Nyack. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nyack Hospital Foundation.
