Top Employee Satisfaction Rating at Hudson Valley Hospital Center

CORTLANDT, N.Y. – A new survey of 408 hospitals nationwide found that employees at Hudson Valley Hospital Center are among some of the happiest.

The survey, conducted by a health care employee and patient survey company, Press Ganey, found of the 250,000 employees surveyed, those at Hudson Valley ranked in the top seven percent of job satisfaction.

Of hospital surveyed in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the employees at Hudson Valley ranked in the top one percent. Hospital officials said this is the sixth year the hospital ranked in the top percentiles of those surveyed.

“The fact that our employees feel satisfaction in their work is not only important to the well being of this hospital, but to the well being of our patients,’’ said HVHC President John C. Federspiel. “High employee satisfaction makes everything else we try to accomplish possible. It is one of the reasons why our patient satisfaction scores are also consistently above the 90th percentile.’’

Employee satisfaction ratings were not always this high. In 2000, the hospital’s employee satisfaction rating was in the 28th percentile. Over six years the hospital improved that rating to the 97th percentile, earning a “Success Story Award” from Press Ganey. The hospital has since remained above the 92nd percentile.

This year, 85 percent of the hospital’s 1,176 employees took the Press Ganey survey. The survey looked at employee satisfaction as well as engagement or how involved employees are in their work. In addition to questions about pay and working conditions, employees were asked whether excellent performance is recognized at the hospital, whether their opinion is valued and whether employees treat each other with dignity and respect, among other questions.
