Senior Health Event in Cortlandt Draws Crowd

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - More than 150 people attended Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s Third Annual Senior and Caregiver Health Fair Friday at the Muriel Morabito Community Center in Cortlandt Manor.

More than 40 exhibitors offered flu shots, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, as well as information on wound care, cardiac rehabilitation, outpatient nutrition, physical therapy and other health topics.

“As a community hospital, we are as committed to preventing illnesses as we are to treating them,’’ said John Federspiel, president of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “The Senior and Caregiver Health Fair provides our seniors with a place to get free health screenings and information and to speak with doctors and other health practitioners in one location close to home. We are proud to provide this community resource.”

Croton and Cortlandt seniors turned out for health screenings, legal advice and information about other senior services. In addition to hospital departments, the Westchester County departments of senior programs and services, transportation and consumer protection attended.

Other medical agencies present included the Visiting Nurse of Hudson Valley and the Visiting Nurse Service of Westchester, and Westchester Legal Services.

“It seems to grow each year,” said Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi, of the turnout.
