Friday June 10

Let's Pretend

The Croton Free Library is hosting a program for children age 2 to 4 years old. Join Nora for songs and there will be stories and playtime. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. The library is located at 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson.

Music ‘N’ Motion

The Hendrick Hudson Free Library will host Lori Cohen, who will provide a developmental music program geared for children 5 years or younger and are walking. An adult caregiver must participate with the child. Free tickets are available at the library’s circulation desk. The program runs every Friday through July 29. Run/Walk for Heroes

Sponsored by the Peekskill American Legion Post 274, this 5K run has a BBQ at the American Legion Hall after the race. There is a $20 race fee plus $2.50 sign-up fee. Ossining Village Fair

Visit Historic Downtown Ossining for the 31st Annual Ossining Village Fair - Saturday.  More than 150 vendors, two stages of music, rides for children and tons of food will be featured. The event is presented by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by TD Bank, Atria Senior Living, Verizon and Ossining Open Door. According to the Chamber of Commerce’s website, more than 18,000 people attended the 2010 Ossining Village Fair.

 

Songs from Around the World

The Boys and Girls Choir of Croton-on-Hudson will host a musical world tour, with multi-lingual songs from the Czech Republic, Ghana, Finland, Switzerland, Colombia, Brazil and our the United States. The choir is directed by Nurt Astrid Villani, who studied choral direction and musical education in Colombia and France. She has also created several choirs for children and adults. The songs start at 11 a.m. in the air conditioned Croton Free Library. Croton Free Library is located at 171 Cleveland Dr., Croton-on-Hudson.

 

Verplanck Ladies Auxiliary Club Social

Win items by placing your number in a cup in front of it at the Verplanck Ladies Auxiliary Club Social. The event is good for kids and adults. Hotdogs, soda, coffee, cupcakes, nachos and cheese will all be for sale. Doors open at 6 p.m. and calling starts at 7 p.m. Call Barbara Stewart for more information at (914) 737-6404. The social will be held at the Verplanck Firehouse on 8th Street in Verplanck.

 

An Afternoon of Street Games

A healthy summer afternoon of street games, such as kick the can, red rover, steal the bacon, jacks and stick ball, will be played at The Garden Road School in Cortlandt Manor. An indoor documentary titled “Street Games” will be shown at 2 p.m. The move is about 70 minutes long. People are encouraged to come and go as they please and the fun will continue until 5 p.m. Admission for adults is $10 and children get in free. Saw Mill River Audubon Society Nature WalkCelebrate the arrival of summer at the Saw Mill River Audubon on its monthly morning walk in its largest sanctuary - Brinton Brook in Croton-on-Hudson. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and the progress will be recorded on a Facebook page with photos and nature notes. No pre-registration is needed and the event is good for all ages. The walk will be held rain or shine except in cases of severe weather or road closures. The group’s monthly second Saturday walks at Brinton Brook will also be held July 9 and August 13. Beacon Strawberry Fest

Beacon will be hosting a Strawberry Fest, sponsored by the Beacon Sloop Club.  Admission is free and the event will be held at Riverside Park in Beacon. The fest will feature amazing Hudson Valley local strawberries with fresh made whip cream on warm fresh baked biscuits. There will also be free sails on the Woody Guthrie, a children's area with many activities and lots of crafts and food vendors. West Point Band 236th Army Birthday Concert

West Point will celebrate its birthday by holding a concert, which is free and open to the public. The concert will include a spirited array of patriotic music and will a streamer ceremony and field music demonstration by The Hellcats.
