Idol Benefit Show Sat. at Peekskill's Paramount

A group of talented local singers and bands will take the stage Saturday night at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill for a concert to benefit a local-based organization dedicated to helping the needy in Ecuador.

All the proceeds from "Idol at The Paramount----Music for Medicine," which gets underway at 8 p.m., will be given to G.U.E.S.S., which is looking to raise $65,000 to purchase a mobile medical unit. The show is being produced by the Peekskill Rotary Club and Peter Calamera, an international composer who also performs in the popular local band Over The Top.

"It's just a night of great entertainment," said Calamera. "Some of these people are really amazing and they just don't have a venue to show off their talent. We have everyone from locksmiths and cab drivers to teachers. These are your next door neighbors."

The 20 solo performers in the show were selected from more than 100 singers who took part in recent area American Idol-type competitions. Tickets are $35 and $20. An after-party at the nearby Elks Lodge costs an additional $15.
