The memorial run supports groups that fight hunger, including the Croton Caring Committee, Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill, Food Bank for Westchester, Hillside Food Outreach in Pleasantville, and WhyHunger (which was co-founded by Harry Chapin).
Chapin, who died in 1981, was a folk singer in the 1970s who co-founded the organization World Hunger Year in 1975 and who donated an estimated one-third of his paid concerts to charitable causes, especially ones that fought hunger.
