Halloween Weekend Overflowing With Spooky Events

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – The weekend before Halloween is busy with events preparing for the Monday holiday. Historic Hudson Valley has a number of high quality Halloween themed events, including the Horseman’s Hollow and the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor. Other events include the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” screening at Treasures and Tales in Croton, and other costumed events for kids. Break out the witch hat and the pumpkins, Halloween’s almost here!

Friday, October 28

Jack O'Lantern Blaze - Over 4,000 individually carved Jack O'Lanterns will be on display at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton, though October and the first week of November. Last year over 80,000 people were attracted to the event, which covers the landscape of the estate. Horseman's Hollow - Philipsburg Manor transforms into a terrifying landscape for a haunted pre-Halloween experience. Advance tickets are required for this event, and it is recommended for ages 12 and up. visit Historic Hudson Valley's website for more information on show times and tickets.

Irving's Legend - Master story teller Jonathan Kruk offers a dramatic tale of Washington Irving's classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This event runs Saturday and Sunday as well, tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for children under 18. Visit Historic Hudson Valley's website for more information.

Saturday, October 29

Boo! Who? This costumed event at Teatown Lake Reservation begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 8:30 p.m. The event is suitable for children ages 7 and up. Admission is $5 for non-members, free for members.

“Rocky Horror Picture Show” Playing at Treasures and Tales in Croton. Camp and sci-fi hit the big screen, along with other projectiles. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., advance tickets are discounted. Call (914) 862-0632 for tickets. Bring toast!

Women’s Symposium The Hudson Valley Hospital Center will host their 11th annual Women’s Symposium, this year featuring newswomen. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Chalet on the Hudson, and runs until 2 p.m. The event includes breakfast, lunch and raffle tickets. Call (914) 734-3557 for more information.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day This national event focuses on the safe disposal of unused or expired prescription medication. Sponsored by the Croton Community Coalition, the event hopes to curb teens’ easy access to prescription medication in the homes of family and friends. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Croton Commons shopping center, off Riverside Avenue, and runs until 2 p.m. Please bring medications in original bottle, used hypodermic needles will not be accepted.

Sunday, October 30

Pet Rally The Girl Scouts of Troop 1252, Kings Ferry Girl Scouts, will hold a community pet rally, with pet costume contest, pets for adoption, games and crafts. Bring your pets on leashes or find the pet of your dreams! Monday, October 31, Halloween

Carrie E. Tompkins Halloween Parade One of the school’s biggest events of the year, the parade starts at 1 p.m. Come and see friends and neighbors dressed up for Halloween!

Hendrick Hudson School District Halloween Parades There will be a Halloween parade at each of Hendrick Hudson School District’s three elementary schools, and Superintendent Dr. Daniel McCann has promised to be in costume. Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary starts off the fun, the ghostly parade is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Frank G. Lindsey and Furnace Woods Elementary both begin at 2 p.m.
