Shooting Hoax: These Capital Region Schools Targeted By Statewide ‘Swatting’ Prank Federal investigators are probing a statewide “swatting” prank that sent schools across New York into lockdown amid fears of a mass shooting. The threatening phone calls started pouring in Thursday morning, March 30, falsely claiming there was an active shooter at various schools across the state, according to New York State Police. The State Police is aware of swatting incidents that have occurred across the state, in which a caller states that there is an active shooter in a school. All of the reports are unfounded. Online Threat Under Investigation At School District In Region Two Hudson Valley schools will be open on Friday, Sept. 16, despite an online threat. The threat originated in Orange County circulating among students via Apple Airdrop at Middletown High School, said Amy Creeden, superintendent of the district of Middletown. The district has canceled a planned pep rally and increased police presence outside the building and around the campus of the high school and Twin Towers Middle School. Threat Leads To Lockdown At School In Region After Student 'Jokes' A junior high school and an elementary school were placed in lockdown in the Hudson Valley after a student "joked" about having a gun. The incident took place in Ulster County around 10:40 a.m., Thursday, May 26. Police responded to Ellenville Junior High school after the 13-year-old student alleged to have a gun as he was talking to another teen, said Chief Philip Mattracion, of the Ellenville Police.
