Sheriff's Employee From Region Shoots, Kills Self At Work, Police Say An employee of a sheriff's office in the region died by suicide, according to authorities. The incident occurred in Ulster County around 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center in Kingston. According to Capt. Joseph Sciutto of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, the employee was located in the center with a a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Members of the Sheriff's Office attempted to provide emergency aid to the employee who was transported to the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, where the person died from the injuries, Sciutto said. Albany County resident Walter Lipka, of Cohoes, died Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the age of 86 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. His death followed a two-month battle with sepsis, according to his obituary. A native of Cohoes, Lipka served in the US Army as a military police officer in the early 1960s. He later received his bachelor’s degree in art education from Suny New Paltz and a master’s degree in Studio Art from UAlbany. 40-Year-Old Killed In Head-On Crash In Region A man from the region was killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer. The crash took place in Ulster County in Kingston on Route 28 around 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 26. An investigation revealed that a 2006 Subaru Legacy, driven by Ulster County resident Tramayne Holmes, age 40, of the hamlet of Milton, was traveling eastbound on Route 28 when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed over into the westbound lane, and struck a 2022 Peterbilt tractor-trailer head-on, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
