Increased Crash Risk: Watch For Deer During Mating Season, State Warns Motorists With the arrival of fall, there is an increased risk of crashes involving deer, both the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) are warning motorists. Deer are most active and more likely to enter public roadways this time of year as they search for mates during their breeding season, which is the months of October, November, and December. Smoky Skies: Air Quality Health Advisory Issued For All NY Regions Due To Canadian Wildfires Millions in the United States are under air quality alerts as Canadian wildfire smoke once again spreads in parts of the Northeast and Midwest. An Air Quality Health Advisory has been issued for Monday, July 17 for all regions of New York. (See the image above.) It went into effect at midnight and will last until 11:59 p.m. for delicate particulate matter for the New York City metro area, Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, eastern Lake Ontario, Central New York, and Western New York. Injured Hiker From Capital District Rescued On Mount Marcy A 57-year-old hiker had to be rescued after suffering a serious injury on New York’s tallest mountain peak. Emergency crews were called at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, with reports of a hiker with a “significant” knee injury near the summit of Mount Marcy in the Town of North Elba in Essex County. Kathy Hochul signed legislation Friday, July 15, that prohibits smoking in all state-owned beaches, boardwalks, marinas, playgrounds, recreation centers, and group camps.
