With the temperature just below freezing throughout the area, flurries and light snow have overspread the region early Sunday morning, Dec. 30.
A dusting is possible in some spots through around 10 a.m. Sunday and the chance of flurries will last until about 11 a.m. as the temperature climbs to a high of around 40 degrees.
Clouds will give way to some sun in the afternoon, with skies clearing overnight.
Clouds will increase during the day on New Year's Eve Monday, Dec. 31.
There's good news and bad news for those headed to Times Square to ring in the new year.
First, the good news. After record cold last year on New Year's Eve, it will be much milder this time around.
Monday's daytime high will be in the low-40s, but the temperature will climb during the evening, and should be around 50 degrees in midtown Manhattan when the ball comes down.
Now, the bad news.
Rain will arrive after around 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve and continue into the early morning hours on Tuesday, Jan. 1, meaning those planning on being outdoors should bring rain gear.
Up to a quarter-inch of rainfall is possible before it tapers off by 7 a.m. Tuesday.
New Year's Day will be mostly sunny and warmer, with a high in the low-50s.
