Stranded Hikers Rescued From Dangerous Terrain In Hudson Valley First responders in the Hudson Valley came to the rescue of hikers who found themselves trapped in a precarious position. In Putnam County, first responders from the Cold Spring and North Highlands fire departments were called to the Cornish Estate Trail in the Hudson Highlands State Preserve late on Saturday, March 19, where there were reports of three hikers who were stuck and unable to move. Officials said that a command post was set up at the base of the trail in Cold Spring, and the Orange County Rope Rescue Team was requested to the scene for assistance. Hiker, 25, Dies After Fall From Mountain In Hudson Valley A 25-year-old hiker from the Hudson Valley fell 100 feet to his death while free climbing with two friends on Thursday, officials said. Kenneth Steier of Poughkeepsie had been hiking Thursday along the Washburn Trail at Hudson Highland State Park, about a mile south of Breakneck Ridge, said Randy Simons, a spokesman for the state Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. Nypd Detective Found Dead In Orange County An NYPD detective reportedly fatally shot himself at an Orange County bar this past weekend, according to multiple reports. Nicholas Budney’s body was found outside of Billy Joe’s Ribwork’s in Newburgh on Sunday, the reports state. He worked with emergency service for the NYPD in the Bronx prior to his apparent suicide. According to reports, Budney, 36, shot himself the night before but his body wasn’t found until Sunday by an employee.
