Mary Bendlin, 91, Nurse In Orange County Mary Webster Bendlin, known to her family and friends as “Scotty,” died on Nov. 11 at the age of 91 in Kissimmee, FL.  She was a retired registered nurse employed in Orange County at Horton Memorial Hospital in Middletown for 35 years and was Head Nurse of the OB/GYN Department before retiring in 1985.  Born and raised in Port Chester, Mary graduated from Port Chester High School in 1946 and the Westchester School of Nursing in 1949. Fire Breaks Out At Former Restaurant Site In Area An early morning fire destroyed the former site of a restaurant in the area.The two-alarm fire, which started around 4:30 a.m. Thursday at the former site of the closed Rusty Nail off Dunning Road, was fully involved when the first arriving fire units from the Mechanicstown Fire Department arrived on the scene. Due to the large nature of the fire, part of Dunning Road was closed until later in the morning as crews works to douse the flames that consumed the building. Route 17M Mobil Station Destroyed By Fire A Mobil station on Route 17M in Orange County was completely destroyed by a fast-moving fire. Washington Heights Assistant Fire Chief Todd Gray said the fire started around 2:43 a.m. Friday and destroyed everything but the shell of the building. "Everything is gone except for the outside of the building," said Gray.  The fire was discovered by a Town of Wallkill police officer responding to a burglar alarm, the department said.  Gray said when crews arrived smoke was "just pouring out of the building."
