Avoid Unnecessary Travel As State Expects Heavy Snow, Hochul Says Gov. Kathy Hochul has urged New Yorkers to avoid unnecessary travel as two weather systems are expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds. Hochul said that New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley regions are expected to see up to six inches or more of snow, and wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, overnight Thursday, Jan. 6, through the morning of Friday, Jan. 7. Home Destroyed During Height Of Severe Thunderstorms In Hudson Valley A Hudson Valley family lost their home after a large tree took off the back half of the house during an intense thunderstorm. The incident took place around 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, in Orange County when a series of storms with high winds moved through sending the large tree crashing into the home at 8 Carpenter Road in Chester. The owner of the home, Rick Collazo, told Rockland Video he and his wife had just arrived home when the tree fell on the back of the residence, his two sons, one who is autistic, were inside at the time. High Winds Knock Down Trees, Causing Road Closures In Rockland Several roads are closed in Rockland County due to high winds that have knocked down trees and utility poles. According to the Ramapo Police, the following roads are closed: ​Route 202 near Orchard Circle: A tree is down blocking one lane of traffic on Route 202. The roadway is open to westbound traffic going towards Suffern.
