Forecasters are monitoring two areas for potential tropical development in the Atlantic. The next tropical storms that develop in the Atlantic basin will take the names Emily and Franklin, in that order. In the Central Tropical Atlantic, a tropical wave is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms a few hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. It's off the East Coast of the United States and could become a tropical depression or tropical storm on Friday night, Sept. 17, or Saturday, Sept. 18, forecasters say.
