8-Year-Old Girl Killed At Area School By Heavy Piece Of Furniture
An 8-year-old girl was killed when a large cabinet at her school fell on top of her, according to New York State Police. Ruchy Friedich was found dead around 2:37 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, when state police responded to a medical emergency in Orange County at the Kiryas Joel Union Free School at 7 Isreal Zupnick Drive, said Trooper Steven Nevel. A preliminary investigation revealed that the child was in a classroom with two of her teachers when she climbed on to a chair to retrieve an item from a large cabinet that was affixed to the rear wall, Nevel said. Cold Case: 16-Year-Old Area Homicide Remains A Mystery
New York State Police are seeking any tips into their investigation of a 16-year cold case involving the 2003 murder of Megan McDonald. McDonald’s body was discovered on March 15, 2003, in a field off of Bowser Road in Wallkill in Orange County. She was 20 years old at the time of her death. The cause of McDonald’s death was determined to be blunt force trauma. At the time of her homicide, McDonald worked at the Galleria Mall in Middletown. Man Charged With Murdering Woman At Historic Armory In Hudson Valley
A 28-year-old man is facing life in prison for allegedly killing a homeless woman whose body was found outside the former historic Armory building on Main Street in New Rochelle. Jose Olmos, who is homeless, was arraigned this week on murder charges for allegedly beating Nurten Jeljuk on Friday, July 27. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. A 28-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a dead body was found in the former historic Armory building on Main Street in New Rochelle. Jose Olmos was arraigned on Monday for murder after the body was found in the driveway of the building on Friday morning. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced that he appeared in New Rochelle City Court and was charged with second-degree murder of the 66-year-old woman. A 54-year-old Westchester County man may spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced for murdering his roommate with canes. Nearly 15 years later, New York State Police investigators continue searching for clues regarding the homicide of a SUNY Orange County Community College student.
