On CBS News' "Face The Nation," Trump said he made a lot of money off the Libyan dictator when Qaddafi needed a place to stay when he was appearing at the United Nations.
"He paid me a fortune, never got to stay there, and it became sort of a big joke," Trump said.
Qaddafi needed a place to pitch a tent, and was turned away from Central Park and a New Jersey suburb, according to CBS News. But when he decided to rent Trump's estate and build his tent there, Bedford officials issued a stop work order since his entourage never applied for a permit, according to CBS News.
Trump has made different claims about the incident. He told then-Supervisor Lee Roberts that he had rented the property to partners in the United Arab Emierates and he was unaware of a Qaddafi connection.
He told Reuters that he leased it on a short-term basis to Middle Eastern partners "who may or may not have a relationship to Qaddafi."
In 2011, Trump told FOX News that Qaddafi paid him to rent the land and Trump then didn't let him use it.
"He paid me more for one night than the land was worth for the whole year," Trump claimed.
Trump also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
