"Through volunteer service, many young people and adults are doing much to improve the lives of their fellow Rockland County residents," Day said. "Please take the time to nominate deserving individuals doing great things in our schools, neighborhoods, places of worship or through community organizations."

Criteria for several awards are based on a demonstrated commitment to exemplary volunteer service in the community, Day said.

Awards included:

  • The Joseph A. Myers Service to Youth Award: Two young people will be selected to receive this award and a $1,000 check for his/her dedicated service. This award is for volunteer community service, not for scholastic achievement. Noncollege-bound youths who have given service are just as qualified to receive the award. The nominee must be able to corroborate two years of consistent service to one or more organizations or causes in Rockland County.
  •  The Father F. Peter Malet Award: Nominations for this award are based on exceptional volunteer community service by an adult volunteer. The recipient will be selected based on his/her dedicated work on behalf of children, youths and families of Rockland.
  • The Youth Forum Business Award: Nominations for this award are based on an active role in the promotion of children, youths and families in Rockland County. The nominee must be a business in Rockland County that has supported the efforts of schools, not-for-profits and/or government.
  • The Dennis J. Fleming Award: One individual will be selected for this award for their long-term commitment and advocacy efforts on behalf of children and youth.

All awards will be presented during a forum on Thursday, May 19. The annual event is made possible by private contributions from local businesses and individuals throughout Rockland County. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Feb. 26.
