O&R Issues Warning After Man Poses As Meter Reader In Rockland

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. renewed its urgent call Friday for customers to confirm whether a utility worker who comes to their door is a real O&R employee or a fake.

Always ask for an I.D. if a Q&R employee comes to your door.

The warning comes after a Stony Point resident reported a man came to her home saying he worked for Q&R and was there to "read her gas pipe," officials said.

The man could not produce an identification card and the resident denied entry, officials said.

All O&R employees and contractors are required to carry color photo I.D. cards during their workday. Police remind residents to always asks to see the I.D. before allowing entry.

If individuals representing themselves as O&R employees or contractors cannot produce a legitimate photo I.D. card, terminate further contact with them, lock your door and call the police.

Q&R said residents should also call their security office at 1-845-577-3526 or 1-877-434-4100 if they have concerns.
