ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Former Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef is seeking a spot on the state's education policy board, according to lohud,com.

An executive from 1994 through 2013, Vanderhoef joins around 50 candidates to fill a Board of Regents spot that will be left when Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch departs at the end of her term in March, lohud.com reported.

The Republican was one of more than a dozen candidates to interview for the position on Tuesday, said lohud.com.
