Westchester residents can breathe a little easier—crime rates are in decline across the county, including shootings, murders, and robberies, according to officials.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Westchester County Executive George Latimer unveiled data from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services showing a decline in crime rates.

A New York man driving a truck with a stolen license plate wanted for its involvement in numerous alleged burglaries in surrounding states was nabbed after a short chase in Connecticut.
Hudson Valley resident Michael Simpson, age 40, of Walden in Orange County, was spotted by police in Fairfield County on Thursday, Nov. 30.

An armed teenage man wearing a wig and makeup robbed a high-end jewelry store in Fairfield County of $175,000 in merchandise before being caught by police.
The robbery took place in Greenwich at Tiffany & Co. around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
According to Greenwich Police, the man, identified as Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, age 19, of San Fransico, California, entered the store at 140 Greenwich Ave. and requested to see jewelry from store associates.

A Fairfield County woman who is a lawyer in Westchester has been charged with larceny and issuing $28,000 in bad checks
On Monday, July 24, Greenwich Police arrested Caitlin Moran Hayes, age 43, for allegedly issuing the bad checks, one for $15,000 and another for $13,000 that were returned for insufficient funds after entering into a lease agreement and moving into the residence.
The incident began in April when police responded to 18 Dwight Lane on a report of a landlord-tenant dispute, said Lt. Ted Latiak of the Greenwich Police.

Fake ID Scam: Thousands Of Dollars Swindled From Fairfield County Resident, Police Say
A man has been charged with larceny and identity theft after allegedly using a fake ID to steal more than $20,000 from a Fairfield County resident.
Archie Longson, age 44, of New York City, was arrested by Wilton Police on Monday, March 27 on a warrant.
The victim first learned of the crime in April 2022, when they found two fraudulent transactions on their bank account for a total of $20,500; a withdrawal of $8,000 was also made at a bank in Connecticut, and a bank check in the name of Longson was purchased for the amount of $12,500, said Capt. Gregg Phillipson, of the Wilton Police.

A local man was charged with larceny for allegedly selling $17,000 in goods at a Fairfield County estate sale and did not turn the money over to the victim's estate, according to authorities.
Nick Hatch, age 28, of Wilton, was charged on Friday, Jan. 27, after turning himself in to Wilton Police, said Lt. Gregg Phillipson, of the Wilton Police.
According to Phillipson, Hatch entered into a contract to sell items from the victim's estate. The items were sold, however, Hatch allegedly failed to provide the money owed to the victim per their agreement.

On Wednesday, Nov. 30, around 6:30 p.m., police in New York and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office on Long Island notified Connecticut State Police that they held an active arrest warrant for 57-year-old Middlesex County resident Jacqueline Jewett of Westbrook, police said.

Two men have been arrested for allegedly smashing their car through the front of a Saks Fifth Avenue store and making off with merchandise.

A man from Westchester County has surrendered to police for allegedly stealing more than a $1,000 in liquor with a woman from a Fairfield County store.

Hudson Valley Man Accused Of Stealing $1K Worth Of Items From Lowe's Store
A Hudson Valley man was arrested and accused of stealing merchandise worth $1,000 from a Connecticut store more than seven years ago.
That merchandise was allegedly stolen from Lowe's, located in New Haven County at 311 Old Gate Lane in Milford, in October of 2014, the Milford Police Department said.
Dutchess County resident Michael Horowitz, age 30, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Friday, March 18, in the incident, police said.
He was charged with fifth-degree larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, authorities said.
