Distressed Kayaker Rescued From LI Sound By Police In Westchester
A “distressed” kayaker was rescued from the Long Island Sound following an incident over the weekend, police in Westchester said. Officers from the New Rochelle Police Department’s Marine Unit in Marine I responded to Middle Ground in the Long Island Sound at 2:41 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, where there was a report of a kayaker in distress in a rocky area near the channel by David’s Island. Two Rescued After Boat Overturns Off Westchester Coast
Two boaters were rescued when their boat capsized in the Long Island Sound off New Rochelle. Members of the New Rochelle Police Department Marine Unit and paramedics were dispatched to the area of Huckleberry Island between Davids Island, shortly after noon on Wednesday where there was a report of a capsized vessel. Two boaters were rescued by police and transported back to shore without injuries. The condition of the boat was not immediately available.

Davids Island, which resides off New Rochelle’s shore, has a history that dates back to two of America’s greatest conflicts: The Civil War and World War I. The 78-acre island, off-limits to the public, was home to one of the biggest WWI recruiting depots east of Mississippi River and dates back to before the Great War.
