Wind-Driven Attic Blaze Damages Northern Westchester Residence
A blaze that ignited in the attic of a Northern Westchester residence proved to be a tough battle for firefighters thanks to gusty winds. The blaze began on Thursday, March 21 just after 1 p.m. at a residence in Buchanan, according to the Croton-on-Hudson and Millwood Fire Departments. Smouldering Tub Of Lithium Batteries Fills Hudson Valley Home With Toxic Smoke
Toxic smoke had to be vented out of a Hudson Valley home after a tub of lithium batteries caught on fire, fire officials said. The incident happened in Putnam County on Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, when a homeowner in Garrison reported black smoke coming from their garage, according to the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company. Arriving fire crews found that a metal tub of lithium batteries in the home's garage had caught on fire. Fatal Northern Westchester Crash: 17-Year-Old ID'd As Victim, Girl Critically Injured
A 17-year-old has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash in Northern Westchester in which a 16-year-old was critically injured. It happened around 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 on Albany Post Road (Route 9) in Cortlandt. According to New York State Police spokesman AJ Hicks, an iitial investigation revealed Putnam County resident and Haldane High School student Vladislav Saban, of Cold Spring, operating a 2012 Toyota Prius southbound sideswiped a Subaru Forester while passing illegally on the right shoulder. Rollover Crash: 2 Sent To Hospital After Hudson Valley Wreck
A person had to be extricated from a wrecked vehicle following a rollover crash in the Hudson Valley that sent two victims to the hospital. The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, when crews responded to a rollover crash on Route 9 in Garrison, according to the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company. Bear Mountain Bridge Fatal Jumper Identified
A man who jumped to his death from Bear Mountain Bridge has been identified by state police. The incident took place in Northern Westchester County in Cortlandt around 2:15 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12. Trooper AJ Hicks said the troopers responded to the bridge for a report of a disabled vehicle. An investigation determined that Ronald E. Welte Jr., age 62, of Midland Park, New Jersey, left his vehicle and jumped from the bridge, Hicks said. Deputy Saves Suicidal Man From Jumping Off Bear Mountain Bridge
A quick-thinking Putnam County Sheriff's deputy was able to talk a man threatening to kill himself by jumping from the side of Bear Mountain Bridge out of ending his life. The dramatic incident took place around 3:56 p.m., Sunday, July 14, when sheriff’s deputies, along with members of other emergency service agencies, responded to the bridge for a report of the man threatening to jump, said the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
