The first session will be on May 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Robert Bell School, the topic is reading workshop and text levels. During this session, parents will receive an overview of the components of reading workshop and the focus of the units of study in English language arts for grades kindergarten through eighth. The characteristics of text levels will also be discussed, as well as grade-level expectations and some suggestions for selecting texts for summer reading.

The second session will be on June 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Robert Bell School, the topic will be word study and interventions. At this session, parents will learn more about the Chappaqua framework for elementary word study instruction, which includes phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling and vocabulary. Parents will hear about some of the interventions used for students who read texts at levels below the expectation for the grade. There will also be discussion on ways to support readers over the summer.
