The Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education has appointed Doreen O’Leary as the next principal of Roaring Brook Elementary School, effective July 1.
Currently serving as principal of Island Avenue Elementary School in Madison, CT, since 2013, O’Leary began her career in education implementing a variety of instructional and assessment practices as an elementary school teacher for Stamford Public Schools.
She also has served as an assistant principal for Weston Public Schools and has previous experience as a curriculum project manager and curriculum associate.
O’Leary’s appointment on Wednesday, May 23 was the result of a rigorous, multi-faceted interview process that included well over 100 applicants.
She met numerous times with various school and community stakeholder groups, and Superintendent Christine Ackerman and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development Kusum Sinha also conducted a site visit.
Throughout the process, everyone spoke glowingly about O’Leary’s implementation of a social-emotional curriculum, deep understanding of teaching and learning practices, and her strong relationships with students, staff and parents.
Committed to creating a positive school culture dedicated to meeting the needs of all students, O’Leary is well versed in the implementation of best practices including professional learning communities, instructional coaching, and balanced assessments.
“Among her other attributes, it is Doreen’s strong background in elementary education, deep understanding of child development, and her reflective approach to educational leadership that makes her the ideal candidate to lead Roaring Brook,” Ackerman said.
O’Leary received her undergraduate degree in political science from Georgetown University and holds a master’s degree in finance and accounting from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.
After a career change, she received a master’s degree in elementary education as well as her Administrator Certification from Sacred Heart University.
