Horace Greeley Hosts Spelling Bee on Thursday

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - New Castle residents will spell for scholarships on Thursday night in the Horace Greeley High School gym as part of the Second Annual Chappaqua Spelling Bee. The Bee, which was organized by SHARE, will benefit the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and $5 tickets will be sold at the door.

Town Supervisor Barbara Gerrard said 44 teams have signed up to compete in the competition, many of which were sponsored by local businesses for $300. Winners will receive prizes and a trophy. The teams will consist of students, school district faculty and community members. "That should be fun," said Gerrard.

The Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization that exists "to make up 'the difference' between the actual costs of college and all other financial resources available to students and their families," according the fund's site.
