Homecoming Weekend to Add Fireworks Display

Jim Nottingham plans to make his first homecoming as president of the Greeley Sports Boosters a blast.

At Tuesday night's Chappaqua Board of Education meeting, Nottingham presented his ideas for Horace Greeley High School’s homecoming. His biggest addition was capping off next weekend's festivities with fireworks.

“I put together a homecoming program that I thought did our community justice,” Nottingham said.

Nottingham said he got the idea after meeting with five other booster organizations from around the area.

He said the 10 minute fireworks program will culminate the weekend on Saturday night. The display is currently scheduled for between 7 and 7:30.

“It seemed to me that homecoming, it’s very name, it’s very nature, meant that people were coming home,” said Nottingham. “So it really behooved the boosters and the community to have that reflected that whole idea of people coming home.”

Chappaqua Fire Chief Russell Maitland was also on hand Tuesday night, as he will be during the display next Saturday.

“We do fireworks in New Castle on a number of occasions,” said Maitland. “If done well and done with a reputable company, which I know Jim is dealing with, they’re extremely safe."

Along with the fire department, Nottingham also met with and received the okay from residents living near the high school.
