Chappaqua Schools To Discuss Space, Technology At Knowledge Cafe

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A Knowledge Cafe event scheduled for Monday, April 18 at the Academic Commons and iLab at Horace Greeley High School will bring together Chappaqua school district officials with a number of professionals to discuss the continuing study and use of space and advanced technology throughout the district.

Expected to attend the two-hour event set to begin at 7 p.m., are Chappaqua Superintendent of Schools Lyn McKay, Chappaqua Asst. Supreintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Eric Byrne, Harvard University's Wirth Professor in Learning Technologies Chris Dede and Jay Litman and Chris Hazleton of the architectural and educational design firm Fielding Nair International.

According to the district, Horace Greeley's iLab and the Bell Learning Lab at Robert Bell Middle School are prime examples of the multi-purpose, educational environments the Knowledge Cafe will discuss.

Both sites feature "cutting-edge technology along with innovative, open floor plans to support small and large group instruction, independent study, team collaboration, project-based learning and presentations."

Other factors that will be taken into account when discussing the school district's move toward more modern spaces include project-based learning, in-depth inquiry, the formulation of questions and research, task-based and self-directed learning, creativity, problem solving, multi-disciplinary projects and communicating work to a variety of audiences.

Those planning to attend the 7 p.m. April 18 Knowledge Cafe at Horace Greeley High School should RSVP by Friday, April 15. Only 80 attendees will be permitted.
